Who Doesn't Like to be Recognized for a Job Well Done?

The Future of Sourcing Digital and Sourcing Industry Group (SIG) are excited to announce that nominations for the Future of Sourcing Awards are open from now until May 15. The Future of Sourcing Awards celebrates organizations and individuals that show innovation, leadership and transformation in categories that are critical to the sourcing industry. The 2019 Awards will take place on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, the capstone evening at the SIG Global Executive Summit. Dawn Tiura, President and CEO of SIG, tells us a little more about this unique program below.

We are so excited to have opened the nominations for the second annual Future of Sourcing Awards. We launched the program to much aplomb after many years of member requests and a considerable amount of research. Our goal was to create a unique program that would be disruptive to the industry.

We felt that it was important to recognize everything impacting the industry—from emerging technologies to sustainability and from great leaders to specific categories. We wanted to truly celebrate the difference we make in the world and innovations we bring as sourcing professionals. And with the help of world class judges to review the nominations, we were able to do all that and more! With eight team categories, two individual categories, and nearly 100 nominations, our judges had their work cut out for them.

We had so many nominations for individuals who had made an enormous impact on the industry that we even created two “surprise” categories. The Lifetime Achievement Award went to SIG Founder, Barry Wiegler, who has dedicated his career to advancing the sourcing industry. In the Supernova Hall of Fame, we recognized five individuals—Lawrence Kane, Deborah Manos-McHenry, Greg Tennyson, Linda Tuck Chapman and Kate Vitasek—who have made a sustainable impact on the sourcing world throughout their careers. We heard through the grapevine that these awards have even led to a spike in recruiting and promotions for the award winners! In fact, our Rising Star recipient last year not only got company-wide recognition, but also received a call from her Governor! We are proud that people display the award recognition by posting their Future of Sourcing Awards badges on their Linked In accounts and in their signatures.

We hope you will consider nominating someone or a team of people for the various individual and group awards. The following categories are now open for nominations:

• Innovations in Digitization
• Innovations in Governance/Compliance
• Innovations in Outsourcing
• Innovations in Sourcing
• Innovations in Supplier Performance
• Innovations in Sustainability
• Innovations in Talent Management
• Innovations in Third Party Management

• Rising Star Award
• Sourcing Star Award
• Supernova Hall of Fame (special recognition and selection process)

Nominations are open until May 15, so don’t miss the opportunity to recognize yourself or your team!

Awards are funny in life. We strive to win them, and then we tend to forget them. We at SIG disagree with that philosophy and look forward to celebrating your successes far and wide. Awards can change the trajectory of your career…they can change who and why someone reaches out to you for a new position, and best of all, they ratify that you have done an amazing job. The only way we can continue to elevate our profession is to let everyone know about the innovative and groundbreaking work that we do…that we are impacting people’s lives and livelihoods around the world through our actions and, in some cases, even breaking cycles of poverty. We should be proud of that—as proud as we are of impacting the companies we work for by creating equivalent revenue through savings…or for improving quality and reliability through our sourcing…or for rooting out evil in our supply chains that would destroy our companies.

While we all understand that kids need appreciation, it’s worth noting that even adults want to be recognized for a job well done. Awards can provide a big boost to company culture, morale and team cohesiveness. People want to work where they know their talents will be recognized. Companies can use our awards program to emphasize the values they have. For example, if sustainability is a big focus for your company, ask your team to submit an award nomination in the Innovations in Sustainability category. If your values include advancing the industry with digital technology, then submit a nomination for the Innovations in Digitization category. As an association, SIG is involved in activities that make a substantial and positive impact on people’s lives…and we believe the Future of Sourcing Awards does just that. Submit your nomination now!
