The fundamental reason for the gap between the data they have and the data they need is that it is buried in documents. For too long, spend analytics have only provided details at the aggregate level and in many cases the data is not accurate. Gillian K. Hadfield: Remaking the Rules for the 21st Century

Academic and author Gillian K. Hadfield is a pioneer in pushing the current legal system into the 21st century. 
 
Hadfield is a Faculty Affiliate at the Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Toronto and the Center for Human-Compatible AI at the University of California, Berkeley. She is also teaching Legal Design Lab (with Dan Ryan) at the University of Toronto.  Her research is focused on the need to reform and redesign legal systems in market democracies.

recent study by McKinsey and the University of Oxford on 5,000 large IT projects showed that 17 percent go so poorly that they threaten the very existence of the company. In addition, over half go massively over budget and deliver 56 percent less value than predicted. An example of this is finding a home listed for $250,000, paying $275,000, and moving in to find that it is really only worth $125,000.
