How did you get into this field – was it purposeful or by accident?

My interest in sourcing sparked while studying Supply Chain Management at Michigan State University. Having just finished the introductory course on procurement, I began searching for internship opportunities focused on strategic sourcing.

How did you get into this field – was it purposeful or by accident?

A bit of both – my career started with a heavy interest in supply chain, and the desire to dive deep into and resolve complex business issues. After my first experience in strategic sourcing, I very intently pivoted to pursue a career with that focus. I felt there was a really unique ability with this type of role to influence critical decisions, develop a wide range of relationships and continuously expand my business knowledge.

Can you outline why your team embarked on this project and the problem that needed to be solved?

We embarked on the project as part of our larger digital transformation journey. In this case, we were seeking a configurable a flexible procurement platform to:  
(1) Manage our sourcing, contracting and other procurement projects;  
(2) Conduct masterful sourcing events (RFXs and eAuctions); and  
(3) Take advantage of other functionality like spend analytics to mine additional opportunities.

How did you get into this field – was it purposeful or by accident?

I was involved in several organizations in college. My sorority put on an annual fundraising event that I chaired. I hired a local company to source and produce all the print, promotional items and apparel. They offered me a job. They wanted to infuse the company with younger people and set up an internship program.
